Norman and Cindi Bateman are reasonably new to the nature photography business. They have only been in it for 6 and 7 years respectively. Nature photography turned from a hobby to a passion since taking an Arthur Morris Instructional Photo Tour in February of 2000. Their photography and writing skills can be seen in such prestigious magazines as Audubon, Florida Wildlife, Birder’s World, Photographer’s Forum and even as a telephone directory cover. Other publications include local pamphlets for state and local government agencies aimed at the protection of the Bald Eagles and Burrowing Owls. Their exquisite photography has won many local and state contests including the “Ding” Darling NWR annual photo contest. Along with accolades from other professional nature and bird photographers, Norman and Cindi have guided professional photographers like Roy Toft, Arthur Morris, Franklin Viola and John Shaw throughout the State of Florida in their quest for photos.
Norman got his first taste of writing in the mid-1980s. He did an exhaustive historical archaeological survey of the last remaining remnants of land where the 2nd Battle of the Mexican War was fought. Four years of work in the field, along with long hours of research, including trips to the National Archives in Washington, D.C., produced a survey paper; The Battle of Resaca de la Palma: An Electronic Metal Detector Survey. The survey is 118 pages in length with addendums, photographs and maps. The survey was privately funded and published by Norman. It was distributed to several colleges and Texas State historical agencies.
Cindi has always been proficient in art and design. She is presently designing and making jewelry for sale and for her own use. She began to get into nature photography after raising a family and moving to Florida. Her photographic interests began with obtaining images to convert into the textile arts. She has natural artistic abilities and when coupled with her love of wildlife, her photographs are dynamic. Her role as a nature photographer fits perfectly. She enjoys the outdoors, being with, and learning about the animals that she photographs.
Cindi and Norman enjoy traveling and sharing their common goals of making beautiful images to illustrate the stories of their travels and adventures.
